National Vietnam War Veterans Day

Today is National Vietnam Veterans War Day. It is a day when we honor those who fought and sacrificed for the events in Vietnam. There were over 9 million Americans who served in Vietnam between 1955 and 1975. Six million are still alive; numerous soldiers either died or went missing. On March 29, we take a moment to honor the Vietnam vets. We take a moment to remember what they gave for their country. National Vietnam War Veterans Day is truly a time to celebrate and commemorate what some very noble soldiers have done and what they ultimately sacrificed.

What Can People Do on National Vietnam War Veterans Day?

As this is a newer holiday, people may be confused about how to mark this occasion. Below are some ideas for making this day a special one for Vietnam veterans and their families:

  • Learn more about the Vietnam war. It is one of the more depicted wars in film, TV, and books. And yet, there’s still so much we don’t know. Educate yourself about this historic time.
  • Visit a memorial. Of course, in Washington DC, there is the acclaimed Vietnam Memorial. But many local communities and cities have their version of a Vietnam veterans memorial.
  • Support a local Vietnam veteran. Be it volunteering or in some way offering your talents and skills, do something good for someone who served.
  • Take time to remember. When many of the Vietnam soldiers first came back, their welcomes were sometimes not as respectful as they should have been. Remembering their sacrifices and remembering what they did is a powerful gesture in and of itself.
  • Take to social media. Raise awareness and get your followers to do the same. Shout out to Vietnam veterans on National Vietnam War Veterans Day.

Small Businesses Owned by Vietnam Veterans

Did you know that you are eligible for veteran business loans? While many veterans of this war are nearing or already in retirement age, there are still several Vietnam veterans who do own and operate businesses. Several programs are designed to help veterans of all types with their business endeavors.

For example, The SBA has loan programs specifically for veterans. In some instances, you can borrow up to $350,000. The SBA Express Loan program for loans under veterans may be eligible for this amount. The SBA also provides comprehensive business counseling and training and development opportunities and access to government contracts for veteran-owned businesses.

Many commercial lenders will also have special programs geared toward veteran businesses. Generally, these might come with more favorable terms and less stringent borrowing standards in some circumstances.

If you are looking for a veteran business loan, you might first try an alternative or online lender. They take a big-picture approach when it comes to veteran business loans. For any business, they offer fast and flexible loan programs. In some instances, business owners get funded in as little as two days. And versus what you will find with a traditional bank, their criteria can be more forgiving. This means you don’t necessarily have to have an excellent credit score or a ton of collateral to put down.
